Internship Practical Experience (IPE)

You are expected to spend at least 20 hours per week working with an organisation in ministry-focussed work. During this time you are considered to be under the supervision of your organisation. Credit for work based practice is given if supervised practical requirements have been met.

Old Testament Overview

The Old Testament is surveyed with attention to the authors, content and purpose, and the major events and people in the history of Israel are studied and related to the purposes of God. In depth studies are made of various books. Writers include Rick Williams and Mark Brickell.

New Testament Overview

This course gives an overview of the New Testament and includes topics such as; the ministry of Jesus, the birth and spread of the early church and the influence and writings of Paul, Peter and John. How do Christians relate to the law of the Old Testament? Discover the liberating teaching of grace.

Practical Ministry Skills

This course consists of notes and audio CDs on some of the varied skills needed in ministry. These include leadership, preaching and teaching, people gathering skills, small group dynamics and spiritual gifts.

Genesis

This course by Don Williams focuses particularly on the first 12 chapters of the Book of Genesis. These chapters set the scene for, and are foundational to the whole Bible. The course includes discussing of some differing views of creation.

Galatians

This book has been called theological dynamite! When Christians have turned to legalism as a means of gaining the approval of God, he book of Galatians has often served as an effective antidote and has brought them new life. Paul finds that his newest converts have been infiltrated by teachers who claim that the secret to a better Christian life is to follow their practices and rules. Galatians is Paul’s response to this teaching and is relevant today as it was then.

Revelation

Look at a balanced view of this often-controversial book. Examine some of the more popular interpretations of it from Augustine to Barry Smith, before planning your next 40 years.

Understanding the Bible I (Hermeneutics)

How do we apply to ourselves today passages written to specific people, in a specific time and place? Examine principles of interpretation and ways of understanding the differing types of literature in the Bible. Notes prepared by Mark Brickell.

Understanding the Bible II (Hermeneutics)

Dr Derek Morphew develops in depth the need for and the roles of both the Spirit and tradition in interpreting Scripture. He compares and contrasts the allegorical method (types and shadows) with the literal/grammatical method and explores the importance of context in understanding scripture. Derek is a theologian and professional church planter who was ordained into the Anglican church, became an Assemblies of God pastor following a charismatic experience and is now senior pastor of Capetown Vineyard South Africa.

Early Church History

In this course we will look at the Early Church. Hear the inspirational story of its growth despite fierce persecution. Find out how we got our Bible and the great creeds of the Church.

Kingdom of God I

An understanding of the Kingdom of God is foundational to grasping the work of God in the world today and to ministering in power. The course examines Jesus’ ministry, spiritual gifts, the empowering of the Spirit and praying for people.

Spiritual Formation

Journaling your own devotional time with God is a major requirement of this course. This course looks at the role that spiritual disciplines play in Christian life. How do they help, what disciplines are available to us from both the past traditions of the Church and from today’s electronic resources, and are there dangers in fanaticism in discipline?

Selected Studies

You are required to carry out a report on the implementation of an event or programme or other project or topic agreed to by the College.

Special Interest Research

You will research a ministry area of your own interest i.e., youth ministry, children’s work, worship, pastoral care, leadership etc.

Healing Prayer

Praying for the sick had a high value in Jesus’ ministry. Praying for healing and the pastoral care of the whole person is the focus of this course. Students will gain understanding of the theological and historical basis for a healing ministry and learn values, practices and methodologies for different categories of healing. Compassion

God’s heart for the poor is the subject of this course. To gain credit, you must report on a ministry activity that involves working with the poor and marginalised.
