Vineyard College Internship Tasks
There are many tasks that you can do during your internship and some of these are listed below.
Tasks are given by your church not Vineyard College, and should depend on your gifting and suitability. We have no expectation that you will do any or all of these things, particularly preaching to the congregation.
Neither do we apologise for including basic ministry tasks, as we believe it is important to start by serving others.
You will start your internship for a year starting in February; however we can enrol your for a year at the start of each month.
Many interns are young people doing a gap type year, although this is also a good option for retirees or those nearing retirement.
If you have a larger church, you may find having groups of interns works well for your particular needs.
Church organisation:
Organising maintenance around the church such as painting the buildings, fixing problems, renovations
Visiting
Greeters
Following up visitors
Service Co-coordinators responsible for set-up and smooth running of services
Maintenance of musical instruments
Sound desk operator and maintenance
Opening up and locking up of church
Preaching to congregation
Running or being part of prayer ministry teams
Council compliance issues; OSH regulations etc
Running a church café
Pastor’s PA
Research assistant for pastor or other speakers; draft sermon writer
Church planters
Assistant Pastors
Alternative congregations within a church
Church administration:
Making brochures for various groups in the church, home groups, Sunday notices, church newsletters etc
Marketing for events; seminars, guest speakers, bands
Preparing data-bases and doing mail outs
Setting up or maintaining websites
Organising group email lists
Updating church address lists
Collecting and sorting mail
Paying accounts
Reception duties
Putting sermons onto PowerPoint
Setting up church rosters and ringing those on them as a reminder
Compassion ministry:
Helping with or running food banks
Working with community groups
Prison ministries
Ministry to the elderly
Ministry to the poor/marginalized
Youth and children’s ministry:
Running youth groups
Preparing materials for youth groups
Preaching to youth, schools, cells etc
Ministry to at risk youth
Working with Incedo (YFC) or The Rock in schools
Working with Bible in Schools
Sunday school teaching
Preparation of Sunday school materials
Groups’ ministry:
Running Alpha groups
Helping with Alpha groups
Running Boundaries groups
Running home groups
Helping with the hosting of all kinds of groups
Outreach and evangelism
Street evangelism
Evangelism on university campuses
Chaplaincy to sports teams, workplaces etc
